We sat down with New York attorney Sheri Pan and discussed her work, what drew her to ZwillGen, and what keeps her busy outside of the office.
I’m a privacy, data, and gaming attorney. My litigation work consists of representing clients in federal and state privacy class actions; contractual disputes; trademark, trade secrets, and copyright matters; and disputes arising from regulatory investigations. On the counseling end, I advise clients on compliance with state and international privacy regulations, gambling laws, alternative data issues, and IP. As part of that work, I regularly put together policies and terms that support our clients’ business and legal goals.
My favorite part of the job is making sense of the uncertain for our clients, who range from social media platforms to gaming companies to financial institutions. An example of that is counseling on considerations in integrating digital assets, an area that’s been a lot of fun.
After my recent clerkship, I considered a variety of places for my next move. What most drew me to ZwillGen was the opportunity to dive deep into the cutting edge issues in technology law while maintaining a vibrant life outside of work. Expertise-wise, ZG has its fingers on the pulse, whether it’s prepping clients for the patchwork of state privacy laws going into effect or assessing new formulations of fantasy sports contests.
The culture at ZwillGen gives attorneys the time and space to pursue interests that make us well-rounded, unique individuals. Since joining the Firm, I’ve been able to pick back up some of my old hobbies, like film photography. My colleagues here are truly collaborative, whether that’s taking the laboring oar on work product, leading presentations, or sharing subject-matter expertise.
I like to stay active, so a few times a week I hit the gym to work on my deadlifts or dance ballet. My favorite type of food is spicy, and I’ve been perfecting a noodle soup with three types of chilis. I also really enjoy teaching (I taught copyright law for a few years) and have extended that to training my dog. A favorite trick I’ve taught her is “lap” where I bribe her with cheese to sit in my lap and cuddle.
