Bio

Emma Bourgeois represents and counsels clients on a range of privacy, data protection, and consumer rights issues.

Emma defends clients in both individual and class action lawsuits brought under various federal and state privacy statutes, such as ECPA, CIPA, and VPPA. In her law enforcement practice, Emma advises technology and media companies on response to legal process and represents them in litigation.

As an advisor, Emma provides guidance on matters related to children’s privacy, auto-renewal laws, marketing, and consumer protection more broadly. Additionally, she assesses alternative data due diligence risk.

Emma received her J.D. cum laude from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. During law school, she was the deputy editor-in-chief of Northwestern’s Journal of Law & Social Policy and an extern at the International Trade Commission. She also worked as a  Privacy & Cybersecurity summer associate at Dechert LLP and a legal intern at the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Units. On campus, she served on the board of the American Constitution Society and as a peer academic advisor.

Prior to law school, Emma taught English in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Moldova. She speaks Russian and French.
